Gateshead Local History Society

Are you interested in Gateshead’s history?

Would you like to learn more about it?

Would you like to help us research?

Maybe you have information about Gateshead you’d like to

share with us?

If the answer to any of the questions is ‘Yes’ then why not consider joining? A membership form is available here and more information is available here.

We are a small, friendly society and we’d love you to join us!

What We Do

The aims of our Society are to bring together all those who are interested in Gateshead Local History; to record information about the town; and to share it with others through meetings, books, talks, local history trails and the internet.

We are also often involved in local projects, such as collecting information about people in Gateshead who were involved in the First World War.

In 2015, Gateshead Council asked us to take over responsibility for erecting Blue Plaques in the 'old Gateshead' area. These Plaques are used to commemorate a famous person or event.
